Hot Air Balloon Safari, Maasai Mara

The experience

Kenya's classic balloon safari departs before dawn from the Mara Triangle or Sekenani, floats for around an hour with the prevailing wind at anywhere from treetop height to 1,000 feet, and finishes with a full bush breakfast served wherever you touch down. Baskets carry 8–16 passengers with licensed pilots, and every flight ends with a signed certificate and a game drive back to camp. Flights run year-round, but July–October pairs the flight with the migration herds below.
